Checking Mods After an Update

A major Sims 4 update does not have to mean instant folder chaos. Following the same routine each time makes it easier to see which mods still work and which ones need an update.

Before launching the game

1. Back up your save and existing Mods folder.
2. Delete localthumbcache.package; the game recreates it the next time it starts.
3. Check status updates from the original mod creators.
4. Download updates from their official pages only and remove old versions completely.

Test in small groups

Start the game without mods and open a separate test save. Add your content back in batches—important script mods first, then smaller gameplay mods. This makes problems much easier to trace.

When something breaks

Delete localthumbcache.package again after making changes. If the issue remains, use the 50/50 method: split the Mods folder into two groups and keep testing until you find the affected file.

Never save an important game while required mods are temporarily removed.
